Details

Only 3 examples are known of the 1804 draped bust eagle, struck in proof format. Researcher John Dannreuther calls the 1804 Plain 4 $10 gold piece "one of the most spectacular gold rarities in the entire American series." Deep Cameo surfaces.

Obverse: Liberty with cap, facing right, surrounded by 13 stars and the word LIBERTY around the periphery. The date is centered at the bottom.

Reverse: A small eagle is centered holding a wreath in its beak, over its head, and an olive branch in its talons. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is written around the periphery.
