Obverse: Liberty Head with coronet on which LIBERTY is in raised letters, no star. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounding, date below.

Reverse: Large open wreath enclosing 5 CENTS, with CENTS in a curved line. IN GOD WE TRUST in small letters at top border (Reverse H of 1866).
