The $5 Liberty Gold, Proof (1839–1907) series of Pre-1933 Gold Coinage in the U.S. Coins contains 3 distinct entries.

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the so-called Liberty head design was widely adopted for gold coinage starting in 1839 for the half-eagle ($5) denomination. Proof examples were struck in Philadelphia, mostly from 1856-1907. Earlier proof issues are known, but are exceedingly rare.
