(1850) F.D. Kohler $36.55 Gold Ingot MS Ingot, K-7 Values

Details

In June of 1850, the State of California started a second State Assay Office at Sacramento. Today, there is one ingot issued by the satellite office that is confirmed genuine, the $36.55 Kagin-7, which is permanently impounded at the Smithsonian Institution. A second example (Kagin-8) was discovered in the mid-20th century by John J. Ford. It does not punch-link to any known State Assay Office ingots, and, as such, its authenticity is unverifiable at present.
