1854 Original One dollar PR Reverse of 1840 Values

Details

Possibly just one example is known that was struck with the reverse die from 1840. All other known proof examples of 1854 Seated dollars are restrikes a reverse die from 1859 paired with a blundered date obverse that shows remnants of two widely misplaced digits. An errant 4 is visible near the rock base above the primary 54, and the top of a second misplaced 4 sits atop a dentil below the primary 4. A important marker is a die defect in the second A in AMERICA.

Obverse: Lady Liberty is seated on a rock bearing a shield with the word LIBERTY. 13 stars appear on the periphery. The date is centered at the bottom middle.

Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered in the design with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOL. around the periphery.
