1909-D $5 Gold MS Values

Details

The 1909-D may be considered the least rare issue in the entire series leaving it at the complete other end of the spectrum from its New Orleans minted counterpart. As easy as it is to find examples MS64 and lower, it is far more difficult to locate gems even with how plentiful this date is. All gems are scarce in this series but this date is certainly fits the perfect definition of a type coin. Overall this issue is quite pretty and has a strong enough strike to please mostly any collector.

Obverse: The obverse bears the portrait of a Native American chieftain in formal headdress struck incuse with the words LIBERTY at the top and the date at the bottom. 13 stars frame the left and right sides: 6 at left and 7 on the right.

Reverse: The traditional American eagle struck incuse in the center with the words, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at top, E PLURIBUS UNUM left of the eagle, and IN GOD WE TRUST to the right of the eagle. The denomination 5 DOLLARS struck below the eagle.
