The year 1942 marks the last run of regular-issue proof coins before a war-induced hiatus on the production of proof coins. 1942 proof cents aren't particularly difficult, though they are rarer than the proofs that came in later years. Avoid pieces with spots and stains, choosing pieces with excellent eye appeal and nice, even color.
Obverse: Bust of Abraham Lincoln framed by IN GOD WE TRUST on the top periphery. The word LIBERTY to the left of the portait and the date postioned on the right side.
Reverse: Wheat ears flanking the words ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on the top perimeter.
