The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Deutsche Notenbank series of German Democratic Republic in the World Currency contains 67 distinct entries with CPG® values between $1.00 and $350.00.
On 24 July 1948, a completely new series of banknotes was issued. The currency maintained the official name deutsche mark von der Deutschen Notenbank until 1964, but it was known, especially in the west, as the Ostmark, or east mark. Up through the 20 deutsche mark, the earlier issues—identified by their 6-digit serial numbers—were printed in Russia by Goznak, whereas the later issues—with 7-digit serial numbers—were printed in East Germany by the Deutsche Emission und Girobank der Deutschen Notenbank (German Emission and Clearing-Bank of the German Note Issuing Bank), both without imprint. To purchase specific goods which were in short supply, citizens were required to use Punktkarte (point cards) in conjunction with banknotes. These ration coupons are beyond the scope of this catalog, but an example is illustrated below.
