The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Banco da China series of Macau in the World Currency contains 69 distinct entries with CPG® values between $3.00 and $1,200.00.
On 21 June 1950, the Banco da China (Bank of China, BOC) established its subsidiary company in Macau, registering Nam Tung Bank as a “banking institute” pursuant to local laws. In 1980, the Macau government set up the Instituto Emissor de Macau (Issuing Institute of Macau, IEM), which was given the monopoly right to issue pataca notes. The Banco Nacional Ultramarino became the IEM’s agent bank and continued to issue banknotes.
On New Year Day 1987, Nam Tung Bank changed its name to Bank of China Macau Branch. On 16 October 1995, the Banco da China became the second note-issuing bank in Macau. The authority to issue patacas was transferred to the Monetary Authority of Macau. For more information, visit www.bocmacau.com.
