Details
The 1860 Clark, Gruber & Company half eagle resembles a federal half eagle, although it is engraved in higher relief than its U.S. counterpart. Well-struck examples (which are somewhat scarce) have a dramatic appearance. Somewhere between 150 and 180 examples are known in private hands, and the finest example is a single premium gem that once belonged to 20th-century type collector extraordinaire, James A. Stack, Sr. Any original choice uncirculated specimen would qualify for inclusion in the condition census.
