1861 Clark, Gruber & Co. $2.50 Gold MS K-5 Values

Details

The $2.50 and $5 pieces of 1861 follow closely the designs of the 1860 issues. The main difference is found in the legends. The reverse side now has CLARK GRUBER & CO. DENVER. PIKES PEAK now appears on the coronet of Liberty. Approximately 100 1861 Clark Gruber quarter eagles are known today. They are slightly cruder when compared to the 1860 quarter eagles. Well-struck examples are a rarity. The finest known example is choice uncirculated, and any attractive, original mint state piece would qualify for the condition census.

Obverse: Liberty Head with PIKES PEAK on diadem 1861 13 stars around

Reverse: Federal eagle. CLARK GRUBER & CO DENVER. 2 1/2 D.
